Abstract
The availability of high power visible semiconductor lasers is driving numerous applications in medicine, printing, optical data storage, pointing, bar code scanning, and solid state laser pumping. Continued improvements in materials growth and fabrication have facilitated a rapid increase in output power available from and shorter wavelength operation of visible laser diodes.1,2 Previously, we reported an output power of 20 W continuous wave (cw) from a 1-cm monolithic array emitting at 690 nm.1 In this paper we report cw output power of 30 W at an emission wavelength of 687 nm. Record output powers are reported including 6 W at 650 nm from a 1 cm bar and >1.4 W cw at 636 nm from a 100-µm wide broad area laser.
