Perturbed wave in a single-mode fiber

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

When a light passes through a single-mode fiber, a perturbed wave will be excited by geometric and index deformations. With the help of the electromagnetic field theory, the formula for the spatial period of the perturbed wave is derived for both step index and distributive parabolic index distribution single-mode fibers, which show that the period is related to the geometric and optical parameters of the fibers, and the wavelength of the transmitting light.
