Abstract
Interest in diode laser pumped solid state lasers has increased dramatically in the past few years due to their advantages over lamp pumped devices and improvements in diode lasers. This has led not only to better performance for 1.06- and 1.32-µm Nd doped lasers, but also to demonstration of a number of novel diode pumped devices. This tutorial presents a survey of these novel lasers and emphasizes an understanding of the basic physics behind device operation.
