Abstract

Because of the importance of integrated optics in the communication industry, a great deal of effort has been expended to reduce insertion losses associated with the coupling of light between external components and fiber links to the lowest possible level. To eliminate these losses, it has been customary to examine the possible uses of fibers as optical components as well as fiber links.
