Strategy for achieving spatial coherent output from laboratory x-ray lasers

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Current plasma-medium laboratory x-ray laser amplifiers are far from fully spatially coherent. For future applications, such as holography, full coherence will be required. We present a strategy for achieving this by appealing to an analogy with current high-power glass laser systems, namely, a single-mode low-power low-divergence amplifier drives a full-power amplifier into fully coherent single-mode output.
