X-Ray Laser Experiments Research at the Nova Laser Facility

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

I will review our research program which studies the lasing phenomena and its applications at soft x-ray wavelengths. Included will be a description of our soft x-ray laser demonstration experiments at 20.6, 20.9 and 15.5 nm for optical laser pumped collisional excitation laser schemes, our physics understanding of the phemonema, our new 10TW 2-beam facility at the Nova laser and our near-term experiment's program. Ultimately, we are hoping to achieve efficient lasing at 3 to 5 nm at MW output power levels, with low-divergence highly-coherent beam properties. Near term our research will be performed at 20 to 15 nm wavelengths and will focus on achieving saturated output from our ASE amplifier and characterizing the beams divergence and mode structure.
