Abstract

Various laser structures based on doped fiber gain media and some form of an intracavity control element have recently been reported. Examples include a narrow linewidth laser based on an intracavity tunable fiber Fabry-Perot [1], actively mode-locked lasers based on intracavity LiNbO3 modulators (operating in AM [2] and FM modes [3]), or switchable diode lasers [4]. Passively mode- locked lasers based on either an intracavity multiple quantum well saturable absorber [5] or nonlinear fiber mirrors [6] have also been demonstrated.
