Abstract

Optical amplifiers have been attracting keen attention among fiber-optic communication researchers and engineers because of the capacity to remarkably increase the transmission span for any multiplexing schemes. Although it is almost certain that optical amplifiers will be useful as well in other optical systems to improve the signal quality, extensive studies on the potential and the limitation of them in optical sensing application are still insufficient.
