Abstract

A comprehensive study of the nonlinear optical properties of channel waveguides fabricated in CdSxSe1−x semiconductor-doped glass (SDG) has been conducted. Measurements of the fluence-dependence of refractive index and waveguide transmission have been made as a function of wavelength. Time-resolved measurements have also been carried out. These studies have culminated in the demonstration of picosecond switching in a nonlinear directional coupler.
