Abstract
Both amplitude and phase instabilities of mid-infrared quantum-cascade lasers were analyzed in the presence of group-velocity dispersion and a background saturable absorber in the lasing medium. The effect of group-velocity dispersion is found to be more significant at lower pumping level and with a weaker saturable absorber.
