Abstract

We were able to excite the whispering gallery mode of microresonators fabricated by two-photon polymerization. The resonators we have fabricated are 45 µm outer diameter hollow microcylinders with sidewall roughness of approximately 100 nm. The finesse of such resonators was estimated in 4.35, being at the same order of the finesse previously reported for high performance polymeric microrings resonators. By improving the fabrication system we have been able to reduce the microstructures sidewall roughness, which is the major factor of loss in the structures. These polymeric resonators can be functionalized with variety of additional materials such as organic compounds, making them an excellent platform to study nonlinear phenomena.
