Abstract

Nonresonant cavity ring-down laser absorption spectroscopy (CRLAS) was applied for detection and characterization of airborne particulates. Sensitive detection of a variety of aerosols under ambient conditions was achieved. The method can be applied for direct measurements of aerosol concentration. An absorption band was observed for aerosols containing absorbing compounds, which indicates the possibility of selective analysis.
