Air Pollution Monitoring with Lasers

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

A new flashlamp-pumped Ti: Sapphire laser has also been developed, and represents the base of all future investigations. Its continuous tunability between 690 nm and 1000 nm, high pulse energy (1.2 J) and reliability (solid state) appear extremely attractive for applications in remote sensing. By second and third harmonic generation, absorption bands of atmospheric pollutants can be reached, and it therefore might replace dye lasers in a near future, giving rise to a new generation of reliable full solid state LIDAR systems.
