Abstract
Most of the studies on laser dynamics so far have considered only the case of a single field mode, or several modes, coupled with a unique medium transition. In the present work we consider a new situation in which two laser fields are coupled with two different transitions sharing a common level (three-level cascade scheme). Special features of this laser are the possible competition and coupling effects that can arise between both fields through the intermediate-level population and the two-photon coherence, which allow to expect the appearance of a dynamic behavior richer than that of the well-known Lorenz-Haken laser and different to that of two-level two-mode lasers.
