Abstract

Previous studies on CdZnTe/ZnTe quantum wells have shown strong intrinsic excitons at the band edge localized by alloy and interface disorder.[1] Localization has a strong effect on the exciton dynamics and in particular, on the scattering processes due to disorder, acoustic phonons, and other excitons. We have measured the scattering (or dephasing) time by time-resolved four wave mixing in a self-diffraction geometry. We find that there is an elastic component to the exciton scattering indicating that the excitons have some motion associated with them, and are localized only over finite distances.
