Abstract

It was recently realized that chaotic dynamics of single mode lasers contains both amplitude and phase aspects, phase of electric field presents complex dynamics of the laser.[1, 2] Experimentally, phase dynamics of chaotically emitting lasers can be studied by optical heterodyne detection. Using such technique we have experimentally studied the phase dynamics of Lorenz-like chaos observed in an optically pumped NH3 far-infrared single mode laser.[3] In the present work we report further experimental investigations of phase dynamics of a detuned single mode laser, we show details of the phase behaviours associated with the intensity period-doubling route to chaos and different period windows within the chaotic regime.
