New Configuration for a Cavity Dumped Dye Laser Generating Highly Stable 60 fs Pulses

Abstract

Cavity dumped dye lasers are a valid solution for the generation of ultrashort pulses of high peak power, since they do not involve a complex amplification apparatus. A few examples have been reported for cw and synchronously pumped mode-locked femtosecond dye lasers[1-3]. In particular, synchronously pumped lasers seem to be more attractive since they provide pulses of higher peak power. However, fluctuations in the spectral and temporal shape of the output pulses have so far limited the application potentialities. These fluctuations appear to be inherently connected to the type of laser resonator used.[4]
