Abstract
The intercombination transitions in the even isotopes of alkali-earth metals are very promising as reference lines for dye laser frequency stabilization. There is renewed interest in these transitions due to the idea of using laser cooling on the strong 1S0 - 1P1 transition. With the success in laser diode (LD) technology it is no w possible to substitute the dye lasers with simple and inexpensive LDs. The spectral purity of dye lasers and the best laser diode systems can be comparable.[1,2]
