Abstract

Optoelectronic devices for digital optical information processing like photonic switching and optical computing have been widely studied in the last few years. The category of switching elements based on multipla quantum wells, like the self electro-optic effect devices (S-SEEDs), are particularly well developed for mass fabrication. They meet most of the requirements for digital information technology with significant features like cascadibility, signal regeneration propeties, fan-in and fan-out.
