Ultra-compact and Efficient Photonic Waveguide Bends with Different Configurations Designed by Topology Optimization

Abstract

Sharp silicon photonic waveguide bends with footprint as small as 1.5x1.5µm are designed by means of topology optimization. The inverse design algorithm leads to decrease in insertion loss by almost 50% compared to conventional bends.
