Abstract

We report on recent progress in the development of wavelength-selectable light sources (WSLs) basically consisting of a monolithically integrated distributed feedback (DFB) laser diode (LD) array, multi-mode interference (MMI) optical coupler, and semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA). Device characteristics of two types of WSLs, one of them integrated with an electro-absorption (EA) modulator, are described.
