Abstract
High bitrate long distance optical communication systems operating at 1.55pm require a DFB laser source with low chirp. A considerable amount of research has therefore been dedicated to the study of special laser structures with low chirp. In the theoretical analysis, it is generally believed that a low chirp can only be achieved with structures with a small effective linewidth enhancement factor αeff and hence severa1 structures with small αeff and assumed low chirp have been reported [1-3].
