Abstract

In integrated optics, S-shaped bends are indispensible for interconnecting different functional elements. To reduce bend loss, several methods have been proposed up to now. This paper reveals the effects of a combination of a trench section and an offset core on the bend loss. The calculation is performed using the beam-propagation method.
