Abstract
Autocorrelation of optical pulses by generation of second harmonic (SH) is a well established technique for picosecond and subpicosecond pulse duration measurement.1 Until now only bulk crystals have been used and the phase-matching has been achieved by birefringence. The disadvantages are that the materials for such autocorrelators must be chosen with high enough birefrigence rather than with the highest non-linearity. This leads to that low SH conversion efficiency is a problem when measuring autocorrelation traces of semiconductor laser pulses with rather low peak power.
