Abstract

Simulation and modeling methods are used to predict performance of optical devices. The frequently used beam-propagation method (BPM) rests on the scalar wave equation although this is only valid for TE modes in planar waveguides. To solve the generally accepted three-dimensional vector-wave equation, we developed a BPM-like algorithm that includes anisotropic media.
