Abstract
In a storage ring free-electron laser we find that using higher harmonic operation, we can not only obtain a shorter wavelength, but also get more gain than when using fundamental harmonic operation at the same wavelength, when the wiggler parameter k ≥ 2. We also find that the experimental condition of the higher harmonic operationcan be easily realized.
