Abstract

In this presentation, we demonstrate that the beam propagation method (BPM) may be successfully applied to both the calculation of the modal electric field distributions and propagation constants associated with strongly guided structures such as rib waveguides and the analysis of electric field propagation in longitudinally varying rib waveguide structures. We further present several modifications of the method which reduce processing time to acceptable levels.
