Holographic Optical Configurations for Eye Protection Against Lasers

Abstract

Holographic notch filters are used for eye protection against laser radiation because they allow high transmission, reflecting only a narrow spectral bandwidth. These narrow bandwidth filters are diffractive optical elements and the notch or wavelength protection will be dependent on the angle of incidence. To obtain large angular protection, a wider bandwidth is required and the advantage of high transmission is lost. This is also typical of multilayer interference notch filters.
