Planar optical waveguides in glass by diffusion of copper films

Abstract

Ion-exchanged passive waveguide components fabricated in glass have been considered as an important method for fabricating passive integrated optical devices. These components show potential for low production cost, immunity to optical damage, and low losses for propagation and coupling with commercial fiber interfacing [1-3].
