Abstract

The Laboratory has discovered the interesting non linear optical properties of the Ca4REO(BO3)3 (with RE=Lanthanides, Y and Sc) family in 1994. We have first characterized the compound with RE=Gd named GdCOB hereafter. This material is now well known [1]. We have simultaneously investigated the compound with RE=Y namely YCOB because of its transparency in the UV range. Its cut off wavelength was found to be around 200 nm.
