Abstract
Recently there have been several suggestions to measure the Wigner function for the motional state of atoms [1,2]. They all rely on the fact that the free evolution of an initial state of motion described by a density matrix ρ(x, x1) leads to a state described by ρΘ(x, x1), which is rotated in the initial (x, p) phase space by some angle Θ.
