Optically pumped vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers

Abstract

While most research on Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Lasers (VCSELs) is focused on electrically pumped devices we use optical pumping instead. In this optical pumping scheme the shape and position of the VCSEL is not determined by electrical contact pads, but by the pump beam. This offers much freedom to study a solitary VCSEL, and the interaction between several VCSELs on the same wafer.
