Abstract

We have used acousto-optic modulators to shift the frequency of optical feedback to a diode laser. The frequency shift drives the system around a cycle at a rate given by the net round-trip frequency shift in which all values of the feedback phase are covered. The diode-cavity system with frequency shift successively realizes states of oscillation that are characteristic for the instantaneous value of feedback phase.
