Femtosecond exciton bleaching in GaAs quantum wells: influence of intra- and intersubband carrier relaxation

Abstract

We use time-resolved spectroscopy with time resolution better than 100 fs to investigate the influence of intra- and intersubband relaxation of optically excited electrons in GaAs/AlGaAs quantum wells. We use a pump–probe setup to measure differential transmission spectra (DTS) after excitation with tunable near-infrared pump pulses. The samples consist of 40 periods of GaAs quantum wells separated by 20-nm Al0.35Ga0.65As barriers. The well thickness is 10 nm (sample A) and 15 nm (sample B), respectively.
