Abstract
Single crystal diamond substrates planarized by mechanical polishing typically present abundant surface damage with feature size comparable to visible wavelengths, which hinders successful fabrication of high quality optical elements. We here demonstrate an ion beam polishing process, effectively removing surface damage and resulting in highly improved surface quality, ideally suited for diamond photonics manufacturing.
