Abstract
For over 20 years researchers have demonstrated and published many successful remote sensing tasks using continuous-wave (CW), monostatic, coherent laser radar (CLR) systems. With atmospheric aerosol particles serving as the distributed target, the applications have included radial wind velocity, transverse wind velocity, aircraft trailing vortices, aircraft true airspeed (TAS), and atmospheric aerosol backscatter coefficients. Calibration issues of the wind and backscatter data have been investigated, and intercomparisons of the CW CLR measurements with both similar and different sensors have been performed.
