200 MW peak power Tm-based fiber CPA system and prospects for further power scaling

Abstract

Thulium-doped fused-silica fibers are a promising platform for the amplification of ultrashort pulses to high average and peak powers [1,2]. Their broad emission cross section around two micron supports pulse durations shorter than 100 fs and they can be efficiently pumped around 790 nm by exploiting beneficial cross-relaxation processes. Tm-based fiber-laser sytems with sub-ps pulse duration have already reached an average power of up to 152 W [3]. In this contribution, a record pulse peak power of more than 200 MW is presented and the further scaling potential is discussed.
