A Microchiplaser-Pumped Polymer-Prism-DFB-Laser

Abstract

A polymer prism-DFB-laser with an active medium that consists of a PMMA-layer which is doped with Rhodamin B is pumped by a microchiplaser at a wavelength of 532 nm, a pulse duration of 550 ps and a repetition rate between 20 and 800 Hz (Figure 1). The polymer film preparation is performed in two steps: (1) the dye and the polymer are solved in Anisol. (2) the solution is afterwards spin-coated on one side of a 90°-prism and then baked for 1 hour at T = 80 °C. In this way layers with a thickness between 200 nm and 5 µm were fabricated. The best lasing performance is obtained with a film thickness between 1 and 3 µm. The material of the prism is SF11 with an refractive index of n = 1.79. The DFB-laser pulses are temporally and spectrally characterized, and the stability of the thin polymer/dye layers at high repetition rates is analyzed. Typical DFB-laser pulses have a duration of < 70 ps (Figure 2).
