Abstract
The compact mid-IR laser sources in the wavelength region between 2 and 3 microns are highly attractive for medical applications, remote-sensing, and trace gas monitoring via overtone molecular analysis. In the latter case, until recently, only cryogenically operated Pb-salt diode-lasers or more complicated difference-frequency generation (DFG) sources were available to selectively detect several different molecular gas species simultaneously.
