Abstract

The 3F43H6 ground state transition of the Tm3− ion leading to eyesafe laser emission around 2 μm is interesting for a variety of applications. Of special interest for Doppler-LIDAR applications is a high-power pulsed single-frequency laser tunable to wavelengths with high atmospheric transmission (e.g. at 2021.8 nm). This can be achieved using a stable cw singlefrequency oscillator of the required wavelength as a seed laser for a high-power Q-switched amplifier.
