Abstract

We report on the development of a tunable cw single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) Tm:Ho:YAG laser for use in eyesafe coherent laser radar applications. Recent work by numerous investigators has shown that cw diode pumping of thulium and thulium holmium doped crystals can result in efficient 2-2.1m operation at or near room temperature,1-4 Results reported here describe a simple cw pumped linear cavity configuration using solid etalons to obtain SLM operation and to tune the frequency continuously across ~1000 GHz.5
