Abstract

So long as diode-laser-pumped solid-state lasers are gaining importance, research on new materials with improved spectral properties for diode pumping is of increased interest. Here we report on the spectroscopic properties and diode-pumped laser performance of Nd-doped CaGdAlO4. This crystal has tetragonal lattice structure with the space group I4/mmm [1]. The Nd3+ ion enters the ninefold coordinated Gd3+ site of C4v point symmetry. The single crystals doped with 2 at. % of neodymium were grown by the Czochralski technique.
