Scattering of photon density waves within the Born approximation

Abstract

Diffraction tomography (DTO) was introduced in the early eighties as an imaging technique in medicine and geology using acoustic waves. This method attempts to reconstruct the internal structure of an inhomogeneous material by the way in which it diffracts waves. It can be used if the wavelength λ of the probing wavefield is in the order of magnitude of the scatterer and when the Born approximation is valid for the scattered field.
