Abstract

New laser sources and modulation techniques enforce laser processing methods to improve existing and to open new applications in the printing industry. Laser engraving, the fastest and most versatile process for the gravure cylinder fabrication was improved with high power MOPA fiber lasers. Embossing applications are enforced by high power ps-lasers and fast extra cavity modulation of high power cw lasers (120W@ 20 MHz) opens the door for printing with laser induced direct ink transfer.
