Abstract
CO2 laser systems used in fusion experiments consist of a short pulse generator (≤10−9-sec pulse duration), preamplifiers, and main power amplifiers. The former are double discharge amplifiers operating with a gas mixture of He, N2, and CO2 at atmospheric pressure. The main power amplifiers are electron beam controlled systems operating at several atmospheres. The short pulse generator normally operates on a single line (P-20) but is designed to operate multiline and multiband (9-μm and 10-μm bands).
