Abstract
Performance of Extended Kalman Filter combined with the Viterbi-Viterbi phase estimator (VVPE-EKF) for adaptive nonlinear phase noise mitigation is studied. The VVPE-EKF achieves 1.4 dB, 1.6 dB and 2.3 dB nonlinear system tolerance promotion at BER=1e-3 for linewidth of 100 kHz, 1 MHz and 2 MHz compared to the least mean square combined with VVPE (VVPE-LMS). VVPE-EKF become convergent much faster than VVPE-LMS.
