Coherent THz Wave Generation by Photomixing in Photonic Crystal Cavity

Abstract

We demonstrate generation of coherent terahertz radiation by photomixing with a photoconductive antenna placed in a 3-D photonic crystal cavity. We observe a sharp gain peak at a frequency in the photonic bandgap, suggesting a cavity effect for a localized defect mode.
