Abstract

Optical waveguides with localized third order nonlinearity, i.e. particular parts of the waveguides have large nonlinearity while the rest have little, have attractive propagation characteristics for their possible applications to bistable devices, alloptical switching devices and so on.1 In this report, we propose a new method to realize localized nonlinear waveguides using semiconductor Multi-Quantum Well (MQW) structures.
