Abstract

Recently, all-optical switching devices have received strong attention because of their use in future optical signal processing and computing systems. The GaAs/AIGaAs multiple quantum well nonlinear etalon (MQW-NLE) exhibited fast low-power optical switching at room temperature.1,2 However, the contrast ratio reported to date is typically 5:1.2 This low contrast is due to the small change in the transmission through the MQW-NLE for the incident control (pump) light intensity.
