Abstract
Even though many signal processing operations are nowadays successfully performed all-optically, yet the thresholding function, fundamental for instance in all-optical pattern recognition, is still performed electronically. semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) nonlinearities, already widely exploited in all-optical signal processing, seem also attractive for all-optical fast threshold operations.
